FAQ

The Answers You Need

Is pixie accepting submissions right now?

Yes, our submissions are currently open for issue 2.1/The Forbidden Fruit Issue! Submit your pieces to pixielitmag@gmail.com in .docx or .doc format by November 3rd, 2023. For more information regarding submission guidelines see below.

What kind of work does pixie publish?

pixie is looking to publish any kind of creative work, including but not limited to: poetry, prose, fiction, creative non-fiction, plays, personal essays, critical essays, and visual art. If your writing doesn't fall into any of the categories listed, send it over anyway! We are welcoming any and all kinds of writing except for academic work. Submissions are not limited to Concordia students; we are looking to publish people from all over. While pixie aims to uplift the voices of female and non-binary writer, everyone is welcome to send their work no matter how they identify. We are not accepting previously-published work.

How can I submit my work to pixie?

  • Email us your work at pixielitmag@gmail.com in .docx or .doc format by November 3rd, 2023.

  • Prose should not be longer than 3000 words (up to two pieces), creative non-fiction should not exceed 2000 words (up to two pieces), and poetry should be limited to five pieces (not exceeding 5 pages).

  • You can submit in all categories should you wish, but will only be published in one.

  • Please title your submission document in the following format: Title_Genre

  • In your submission email, please include your full name (and pen name if you wish), your contact information (your email and phone number), a brief author biography (written in third person), trigger warnings, and the title(s) of your work.

  • Your name or any identifying information should not appear anywhere on the manuscript itself; we would like to maintain a blind submissions process and ensure equity during our selection. This means our editors will not know the name of the author of a piece when they encounter it for the first time and will base their judgement solely on the merit of the work itself.

  • While our latest issue is themed (The Forbidden Fruit Issue), we consider the theme as a suggestion or guiding concept, more than a mandatory framework into which every piece must fit. In other words have fun! But if you'd like more insight into our vision, see the section below.

  • We do not accept any work that is hateful or discriminatory.

  • Any submission that does not meet the above outlined guidelines will not be considered for publication.

  • Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns at pixielitmag@gmail.com or via our social media accounts.

Can I join pixie?

We just closed our hiring. Come back next summer to join our 2024-2025 masthead. In the meantime... Submit your work! A number of our current masthead have previous (though not required) experience as contributors. It's a great opportunity to gain familiarity with our team and work.

Gasp!
"The Forbidden Fruit Issue"?!
Whatever could that mean?

For this next chapter of pixie, we're inspired by catalysts, biblical and otherwise. Not just snakes and gardens and potentially humanity-altering decisions, we want to feature desire. Human. Divine. Grasping for knowledge, or just an apple, we challenge you, dear reader, to take a bite.
